Chicken Road Game Review
Chicken Road by InOut Games is not a typical slot that the online casinos are full of. InOut went the other way – they’ve created a minigame in which, as the name implies, your chicken needs to cross the road. What happens if it doesn’t? Well, it becomes …err… more edible. This game is going to put your reaction skills to the test and make you crave Colonel Sanders’ basket as a side effect.
Gameplay
One of the coolest features of the Chicken Road game is that you can choose the difficulty level yourself. There are four of them: Easy, Medium, Hard and Hardcore. The higher the level, the higher the fire frequency as well as the chances to get roasted. However, easy level means smaller rewards per step, so if you want to get to that coveted €20,000 maximum prize faster, you’ll need to put yourself at a bigger risk. Nevertheless, the RTP is pretty high – 98% – so your chances to win are quite serious whatever difficulty level you choose.
As for the game mechanics, Chicken Road is very straightforward. Don’t wait for any additional games, bonus rounds, free spin sessions or anything like that. Nothing should distract you. Just. Cross. The damn road. That’s it, just get your chicken through all the spontaneously-fire-breathing manholes to the golden egg and don’t get it fried on the way. Easy, right? You wish. I think I was this close to breaking my touchpad while trying out this game and that was on Medium.
See, this game is all about reaction. You set the bet between €0.01 and €200 and after you choose the level, you have two buttons – “go” and “cash out”. When you press “go”, your chick makes one step forward per click. If you’re lucky and there’s no fire, you earn and then decide to either move forward or to cash out. But you need to decide fast ‘cause if you stay for too long at one manhole, it will breathe fire at your chicken and you’ll need to start over.
If you choose an Easy level, your chicken gets a road with 24 manholes to cross with a 1 in 25 chance to get roasted. On a Medium level, there are 22 manhole covers and a 3 in 25 probability of catching fire. Hard one comes with 20 manholes and a 5 in 25 probability of turning into a meal. Hardcore is the shortest for it’s only 15 manholes. But it’s the toughest – 10 in 25 probability of your chicken to see its ancestors. The prizes range too. From 1.02x to 24.5x your stake on the easy level and from 1.65x to the marvellous 3,303,384.8x your stake on the hardcore mode. Add up the golden egg and all its value to that. The prizes increase with every step you make and burn together with your birdie.
Game Design
Chicken Road visuals are as simple as its gameplay. There's a road. It’s grey with all 50 shades of it. There’s fire. It’s bright and, well, fiery. And then there’s a chicken. A white chubby chicken that is definitely alternatively gifted and that darn bird just can’t cross that darn road easily and evenly! No, sir! It will stand there, right in the middle of a road, thinking its chicken thoughts, wondering if it should go to seven eleven instead or I don’t know what, waiting to catch a fire! Aargh! But I love this game. Jokes aside, that’s the thrill that I’ve been missing.
Final thoughts
I love the nostalgic arcade vibes I’m getting from both the visuals and game mechanics. The tension makes it surprisingly fun, and the growing prizes add to it. However, a poor internet connection, as the one that I’ve been having while playing this game, might bring too much additional tension to your gaming experience since the buttons would respond disruptively. So check your mbps or brace yourselves. All in all, I fancy that fear-greed balance this game makes you keep. That was a breath of fresh air to me, and something makes me think it will be the same to you. And now I really need to hit the road – the craving for fried chicken limbs is killing me.
